Privacy
Short version: we collect as little as we can.
When you submit a story
- Published: your title, story, screenshots, and — if you give them — display name and social handle.
- Kept private: your email (only if you give it), used only to contact you about your post.
- Spam protection: a one-way hash of your IP address, used to limit how many posts can be sent per hour. We don't store your raw IP.
- Screenshots: we strip hidden metadata (like location) from every image before saving it.
If you create an account
- Public: your username, display name, bio, social handle, posts, comments and the date you joined.
- Private: your email address, if you give one. Your password is stored only as a one-way hash — we can't see it.
- Upvotes are private: we show totals, never who voted.
Removing your content
Email hello@lagosgist.com with the link to your post and we'll delete it along with its images and any email you gave us.
Visitor counts
To show how many people are online, we count visits anonymously: a one-way hash of your IP address and browser that changes every day, so it can't be used to follow you.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand which pages are popular and where visitors come from. It sets cookies and Google processes the data under its privacy policy. You can opt out with Google's opt-out add-on.
Cookies
Google Analytics sets its own cookies (above). Logged-in members also get a single session cookie from us.
