Lagos Life passes 2 million players in its first week
Lagos Life, the browser game set in Lagos, has passed 2 million players less than a week after launching on 1 October, according to WeeTracker and Vanguard.
How fast it grew
Reported milestones:
- 3 October: more than 100,000 users, with 11,000+ online at once (Isakaba).
- 4 October: 50,000 players online at the same time (Isakaba).
- Around day 3: passed 1 million players (Techpoint, BusinessDay).
- 5 October: reports put peak concurrent players anywhere from about 109,000 to over 145,000.
WeeTracker also reported the game made about $46,900 in revenue in its first four days, and that Nigerian Google searches for "Lagos life" jumped more than 5,000%.
Techpoint notes the growth figures haven't been independently verified.
Why it took off
The game is free, runs in the browser with no download, and is built around experiences Nigerians recognise — NEPA, rent day, Amala Shitta, Quilox, the hustle. It was built by Nigerian developer Shalom Rayhamen, who has said the platform is "just getting started."
